The plaza Ernesto Erkoreka, an urban space in which coincide historical
and symbolical constructions. The Bilbao Town Hall, the sculpture Variante
Ovoide, the Banco de Beteluri, the bridge Puente del Ayuntamiento, the flag of
Bilbao. A study of the urban space, where the meaning of the space is
described, analyzing relationships: local situation/specific constructions.
Demonstrating that the city space is not only defined by the built environment,
but also defined by the local symbols. An examination of the strategic planning
of the city of Bilbao, a classification of specific buildings and their basis
as modernist works of art, a visual registry of the selected constructions,
photographs and plans, to interpret and understand via the theory of art and
architecture, the symbolical in relation: urban art and people. The essay is
comprised of two parts: I. The history of the strategic planning of the city.
